Rose pulled back from the blonde haired boy, her fingertips instantly moving to her lips that were still tingling from the kiss. Scorpius Malfoy had just kissed her. Her steps moved her a few paces backwards, all the while the look in her eyes shifting from confusion to disbelief, to … happiness? What was happening to her? Scorpius Malfoy kissed her and she was happy about it? Quickly her chocolate hues shifted to glance at the group of students who lined the corridors, each one with their mouth hanging open in shock like they’d just seen a crime. Other were already beginning to whisper. The way rumors travelled in this school the news would reach her cousin’s ears soon enough and Rose would be in a world of trouble. Well, it was more likely Scorpius would be in a world of trouble.
Her jaw moved several times as if she was going to say something but instead she stood there dumbfounded like a fish out of water. There wasn’t anything she could say. Her words were long gone. Either way she was not about to talk to him with all of these wandering eyes and blabbering mouths tuning in to the newest tidbit of gossip. In a swift movement, Rose stepped forward and grabbed Scorpius by the arm nearly dragging him down the hallway towards the nearest empty classroom. After pushing him in, Rose slammed the door shut and turned on Scorpius. Her hair flew over her shoulders in wild bushy curls and her cheeks were so hot you could fry an egg on them.
“What the bloody hell was that?” Rose crossed her arms defiantly and clenched her jaw once more. She had a tendency to be quite blunt when she needed to be and now was one of those times.
“What? You wanted me to be honest and I was.”
“In front of the entire school? Scorpius, people are going to be talking about us for the rest of the week now. You couldn’t have done that in private or something?”
“Oh yea, that would have gone well. With you running away from me and all. Plus if there weren’t any witnesses I probably would have gotten slapped for that.” Scorpius gestured with his hand before running it through his sleek blonde hair. The boy was at a loss for words. It seemed like he couldn’t do anything right today. He turned and found the nearest desk and hopped up on it to sit. He had a feeling he’d be here for awhile.
“Yes, you probably would have. You can’t just go around kissing girls with no warning. It might work on other girls but I don’t really appreciate being bombarded in the hallway like that. It’s rude.”
Scorpius rolled his eyes and stifled a chuckle. This was Rose. Always so uptight. Judging from the way his father talked about her mother, he imagined the two women were very similar. He could only imagine arguments in the Weasley house. “Rose. Can you stand there and tell me that you haven’t felt any kind of connection with me over the last few months? I for one have wanted to do that for awhile but I was trying to be a gentleman for your sake. It’s not like I just dropped it on you. I told you I cared about you. Is it really that much of a surprise?”
Rose paused for a moment as she contemplated his answer. It was true. They had gotten close over the last few months and she did have feelings for him. Did being the operative word there. “I thought we had a connection but obviously not since you can’t even stand up to your friends for me. And it was a surprise. I knew you cared about me but you never mentioned you cared about me… like that.”
Scorpius chuckled again. “Oh Rose. You may be smart but you can’t even see what is right in front of you. I’ve been hinting that I liked you for weeks. Months actually. You just didn’t pick up on it. Remember the roses that you found in your room that you thought Roxie sent you because you had a bad day? Those were from me. I was too embarrassed to tell you though. Oh, and when I asked you to come with me to the Halloween dance. I wasn’t implying going as friends. I wanted you to be my date. You just assumed I meant as friends and I didn’t have the heart to tell you otherwise.”
Rose averted her eyes to the ground. All these obvious signs he’d been giving her and she was totally clueless. So much for being witty and intelligent. Apparently she couldn’t even make a basic observation. “I… I didn’t know or I would have said something or acted different. I don’t know. This is all just so sudden I don’t really know how to react.” Her expression had softened considerably. This was new territory for her. Rose Weasley wasn’t exactly known for her dating endeavors.
Scorpius hopped off the table and walked across the room to stand in front of Rose again. “You could start by telling me how you feel about me because I’d really like to kiss you again and not get slapped.”
Rose finally got the nerve to look up after a few seconds and meet his icy eyes. she would be lying if she said she felt nothing for him. Actually, she felt a great deal for him but had been too stubborn to admit it to herself until now. She lifted a hand and held it out in front of her so that her palm was facing him. With her head she gestured for him to do the same. Once his hand was up, Rose moved hers and twined her fingers through his. She wasn’t brave enough to kiss him but she hoped that this gesture would be enough to let him know how she really felt.
